Bistro Du Vin at Shaw Centre

About 2 weeks back, I had dinner at Bistro Du Vin with Weina to celebrate her 19th birthday. It's a French place and the experience was amazing- from the food down to the service- everything was perfect to a T!

Entree: goat’s cheese in ‘feuille de brick’ with mesclun salad

 Main: Slow-cooked lamb shank
Stewed lamb shank is quite possibly the only type of lamb I will eat- everything else is too gamey for me. This lamb was extremely tender, and you could tell it had really been cooked for a long time because the meat fell off the bone with barely even the slightest of prods. It just MELTED IN MY MOUTH.
I would go back again just to have this!

I'd arrived before Weina so I talked to the waitress and asked her if they could write a birthday message on the creme brulee that was to be ordered. They were more than willing! (Nice penmanship too :p)

So after Weina ordered dessert (the creme brulee), the waitress gave me a very discreet, knowing look. I could barely contain my myself! You know when you've got something up your sleeve and the other person has NO clue whatsoever, so you feel really sly and smart and excited HAHAHAH yeah that showed in the smirk on my face... I think I'd be really bad at poker.

This was supposed to be her first-ever creme brulee experience, but coincidentally, her friends had gotten her several bowls of it earlier that day (party poopers!).  BUT this was no ordinary creme brulee. This was the King of all creme brulees, the CREME of the crop (ha ha), the CREME DE LA CREME (ha ha ha ok I will stop).

Cracking the burnt sugar crust with my spoon, I thought I could not be any more like Amelie Poulain. That is of course, unless someone handed me a bowl of raspberries... and gave me a cropped haircut? Anyway, this was THE BEST creme brulee I've ever had.

It wasn't cloying at all, and there was LEGIT THICK LAYER of vanilla beans at the bottom (WE LIIIIVE for seeing real vanilla beans in our desserts- it's a thrill). Best creme brulee in town!

Knowing us, we didn't stop at 1 dessert. We also had chocolate fondant cake (lava cake) and this was just as good. Molten lava cake is just about the only warm cake I enjoy and this was dark, indulgent and super chocolatey. The ice cream was speckled with vanilla bean seeds too so that's an A+ from us.

You can tell how much she loves dessert- just look at her face HAHAHA <3

I really do love it when you have such an amazing food experience, made even more special by the company you're in. Of all the places we've eaten at together (and that's A LOT of places), I dare say this is my favourite of all-time. Everything we had was a hit! Needless to say, I'll be back soon.

After, we headed to Lido to catch THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE!!! YOU HAVE NO IDEA how excited I was to watch it, especially because it was the premiere night! I loved the movie so much and it was really accurate. AND Jennifer Lawrence is ahmaaaazing. Also, HELLO Josh Hutcherson and Sam Claflin  ❤_

After the movie, we went to Liat Towers' Starbucks because it was 1am and we just wanted to chill. Had such a lovely night with this girl, just talking about everything and nothing.

Always have a lot of catching up to do because so much happens in our 2 weeks apart. I guess what also helps is that she can yak on and on and on and on.... ;) I kid!!! Anyway, really am so thankful to have her in my life. I knew from the very first time I met her in j1 that we'd be really good friends. Guess what I didn't know, was how much our lives would intersect in the time after graduation. From that flea market where we cleared every single item we'd brought, to both fun & drudgery of months spent at Jones, to cafe-hopping and face-stuffing, to sleepovers and baking sessions and movie-watching, I think it's safe to say I've spent an unhealthy amount of time with her this year HAHAHAH. But I've loved every meeting, and thank you so much just for being you. Hope you had a splendid 19th, and here's to many more birthdays ahead! <3
