When we went to Avignon, we were treated to Festival d'Avignon which was an art/theatre festival. The city was abuzz with actors giving performances in the middle of the streets (in full-costume) and tourists milling about! It was a strange juxtaposition between the contemporary performances and the archaic backdrop of a medieval castle... The castle was absolutely breathtaking by the way! It was huge and intricate with a giant dining hall (once engulfed in flames -- la salle brûlée, literally meaning burnt room) and grand chambers. I've always loved visiting castles. I remember it being an excruciatingly sweltering day and that that scoop of strawberry sorbet was an absolute godsend. x
