Spisestedet ØST, Copenhagen

Untitled-1

Spisestedet ØST is a cafe within Den Blå Planet, Copenhagen's aquarium. With its beautiful high ceilings and a sleek, slate grey interior, it was a surprise to see such a pretty space as the aquarium's equivalent of a 'cafeteria'. What came as another pleasant surprise was that everything was rather decently-priced!

The cafe had a sizable menu, ranging from fish and chips to pasta, and sandwiches to fish frikadellar. We tried the fish and chips (DKK 115), which could seem ironic or apt, depending on your perspective. While not the most generous portion, it was fresh, crisply-battered and tasty. For small appetites, they also have childrens' menus. One portion of piping hot lasagne was DKK 65 and it came in all its gooey-layered glory. It was definitely a welcomed warm meal when the winds were howling outside. Admittedly, it's not the easiest cafe to get to and I wouldn't go out of my way to come here unless I were at the aquarium for the day. Nevertheless, it's a delightful place to end your trip to Den Blå Planet!
