Mormors, Copenhagen

Tucked a short distance from the beautiful Marble Church is a little cafe by the name of Mormors. Stepping inside feels as if you're taking a step back in time - the walls are plastered with little knick knacks, embroidered cloth and gold-gilded plates from eras gone by. The floors have woven carpets and the chairs that sit atop them are mismatched with deliberate quirkiness. Mini-chandeliers and candelabras fill the cafe with a warm light.  Mormors feels like a pleasant throw back to a quaint English cafe in 20th century.

The food at Mormors is simple and unpretentious - fresh sandwiches, home-baked muffins, scones, cookies and cakes, salads, smoothies and juices. We had an apple cinnamon muffin (recommended by the owner herself), and some traditional Danish pastries. What we liked was that everything was undeniably fresh! It certainly proved to be a good choice for an afternoon tea, and also a good place to rest tired feet. Its accessibility is a brownie point, as it is just a stone's throw away from the bustling street of Nyhavn. Mormors probably wouldn't be the best place to study, but it would be perfect for enjoying some quality time (and good tea) with friends or family.
