"J'ai senti dans ses mains le chaleur d'un destin."
Sète was a beautiful seaside town with salty air and sea breezes. This was where I took my first swim in the Mediterranean Ocean and it was absolutely FREEZING even though we were in the peak of Summer. However, it was a good experience of liberation from self-consciousness and what was even better was climbing onto boulders and drying off in the warm embrace of the Sun. One thing that struck me about Sète was its tranquility and peace - something I really treasured at that point in time. It was also my first time trying Moules Frites (mussels and fries)! Incidentally, it was also La fête nationale du 14 juillet, otherwise known as Bastille Day, and we were treated to a twenty
-five minute long firework display that ended off the day with a bang. x

When we went to Avignon, we were treated to Festival d'Avignon which was an art/theatre festival. The city was abuzz with actors giving performances in the middle of the streets (in full-costume) and tourists milling about! It was a strange juxtaposition between the contemporary performances and the archaic backdrop of a medieval castle... The castle was absolutely breathtaking by the way! It was huge and intricate with a giant dining hall (once engulfed in flames -- la salle brûlée, literally meaning burnt room) and grand chambers. I've always loved visiting castles. I remember it being an excruciatingly sweltering day and that that scoop of strawberry sorbet was an absolute godsend. x

Beautiful medieval fortresses and a town within walls. Also featuring the happiest dog ever and his owner who so kindly agreed to have her picture taken. I really enojyed myself on this field trip and I guess now I can't say "Je n'ai jamais vu Carcassonne!" x

It's been a good 3 months since I've returned from Montpellier, where I spent 3 weeks getting to practice my French during my Summer Language Immersion Programme under NUS LAF2201. Whenever I look at these photos, I just can't help but smile because I hold these beautiful memories so dear to my heart. It was a wonderful experience -- the school, the people, the buildings, the food, the sights and the sounds. Memories fascinate me because of their natural and subconscious formation, in a sense that you're hardly ever aware of the cognitive process that films your life through your eyes, until it plays back in your head later on.

I look at these photos and miniature films begin to roll in my mind, of the time we all watched the Sun set at 9.30 P.M. while eating cheese and drinking wine, legs dangling off the edge of the park wall with music floating off in the distance. Or of the time we trawled through the narrow winding alleys - of which Montpellier had in a great abundance, and finally found a place for dinner (where I ever so gracefully fell off my chair by doing nothing at all) and the kind lady next to us taught us how to eat. The palpable merriment and festivity that imbued the air, helped along by three glasses of wine for 5 euros and the joy of Les Estivales. Thankful to have had my life enriched so. x
