Tulipmania at the Flower Dome, Gardens By The Bay

DSC_1541

On Good Friday, we went down to the Flower Dome at Gardens By The Bay for Tulipmania 2014. Tulipmania is an annual event where tulips are flown in straight from Holland and they're lined up in a stunning display. I had already seen them last year, but they were so stunning I had to go back again this year.

While the tulips were the stars of the show, I couldn't neglect the rest of the flowers. Ridiculously photogenic things, they are!

What to eat in Singapore: Plain Vanilla Bakery cupcakes

DSC_1367

Well it's no secret that I love me a good cupcake. Of all the cupcake stores that have sprouted up on our little island, I dare say that Plain Vanilla is the country's best! I may be partial to them because of sentimental value I've attached to their homey little corner-- in JC, my dear friends and I used to frequent it so much. But even if it weren't for the fond memories, they'd still taste as good.

I don't know if their bakers are magical little elves, or if they sprinkle their cake batter with fairy dust, but trust me-- they're magic.

(Clockwise) Vanilla Bean, Salted Caramel, Red Velvet, Strawberry White Chocolate

These flavours are my personal favourites that I hardly stray away from. I'm not so much a fan of chocolate-based cupcakes, as you can see. I guess you could say... I'm a plain vanilla girl at heart. Eh, eh??

From the above, I'd have to say the most definite must-tries are the Vanilla Bean, Salted Caramel and Red Velvet. (yes I know that's almost all of them.)

A naked red velvet cupcake de-cased. It's always the one I reach for first (if you're taking notes). The thing I love about Plain Vanilla cupcakes is that the cake crumb is so moist and soft, and it springs perfectly into an aesthetically-pleasing hearty height that spills ever so seductively over the casing. Nobody reaches for a skimpy wimpy little cupcake, right? The icing could get a little too sweet for some but I'm not one to complain (more frosting please!)

DAT CRUMB. Never has a cross-section been so tempting.

And within minutes, this is all that's left...

Developing 120 film

Awhile ago I discovered a roll of 120 film in my drawer that I'd completely forgotten to develop.

It was shot with my Diana F+ a few years ago when I was still in that phase, so it was probably already expired-- but hey, that made it all the more mysterious! After processing, I was pleasantly surprised with the shots that came out! I think I was on a multiple-exposure kick.. And here you'll spot Twinkle, circa 2009, looking drugged-out as usual.

Pre-grooming pictures because I love his shaggy fur. And how unfair is it that his locks are more silken than mine? But I love my dog even if he is a very simple dog who tries to bite air from a hair-dryer and I think if he were a person, he'd be the socially-awkward type. Twinkle, you darling.

• London // Borough Market // Tower of London •

DSC_0277

Made our way down to the famous Borough Market- heaven for foodies- but, blaming it on my sometimes-bad luck, it was closed. :( A little disappointed because I was so excited for this stop! I've seen pictures of it and all the food looks uhhh-mazing. Making the best of the situation, we decided to take a long walk to Tower Hill where the Tower of London is located.

By the time we got there (4pm), the Tower was closed for the day. Whaaaaaat up with the bad luck streak man (this was also the day that I fell ill). At least we had some hot fish & chips.

The next day, we came back and the sun was out in full force. I relished it and basked in it because the warm sensation of sun on my skin had become such a rare one HAHA. Also, just as a pointer, it's never a good idea to visit tourist attractions on weekends. Snaking queues everywhere... queues TO GET to the queues.... but the tour of the Tower was really good.

Such an expansive castle & so rich in history. It was really interesting (for a nerd like me) and I don't know why but I really enjoy going to historic sites and thinking "omg Anne Boleyn was executed at this very spot". (Is that weird and morbid? Maybe.) But morbidness aside, I've always had a keen interest in the workings of royalty and monarchy. The crown jewels were absolutely STUNNING but sadly, no photography was allowed. (You can google pictures instead).

A good morning spent learning some historical knowledge in place of usual relatively mind-numbing shopping- good to add some value to a holiday! Also felt really privileged to get a picture of this raven. But it makes me sad to think about its clipped wings for the sake of novelty..
